There's really no excuse for anyone to use Internet Explorer - it's just that bad. Razz

I use Firefox on Mac, occasionally Safari, and even less occasionally Internet Explorer (but only if I need three browsers at once or IE-specific stuff).

Firefox. There are several tricks to make it even faster than it already is... Tabbed browsing is really handy for opening all new posts all at once. It makes moderating quite fast and easy Smile

Netscape used to be the best (quite) some years ago. Then they were kicked out of competition by Microsoftś schemings. Mozilla is actually based on the old netscape code, as well as Firefox is now and Mac's Safari.

Excellent mention, Rick!

And yeah, WAY back when there was one browser - NCSA's Mosaic. That turned into three shortly thereafter with MS Internet Explorer and Netscape (which was a superior browser for a good while). You used to have to buy Netscape, and I had a copy in 1994 (Year One of the public World Wide Web!).

Things have indeed changed, but the legacy of Netscape, rather than the browser itself, are what make it great. AOL bought Netscape, essentially destroying it, but luckily not until after Netscape decided to make the browser's code open-source and basically challenging any developer worth their salt to do something with it. Mozilla was formed by such people, along with laid-off former-Netscape engineers, and today it has "blossomed" into a full-featured browser package (Mozilla), a standalone browser (Firefox), a calendar (Sunbird) and a decent email client (Thunderbird). I've used Firefox since it was called Phoenix, then Firebird, then Firefox (copyright issues, it seems).

Netscape is now nothing more than AOL's sad attempt to get a piece of the "budget dialup" market, along with NetZero and PeoplePC, but the company, and the name, used to be/are so much more than that.

IE is junk. You like Billy$oft and Spyware?!? Laughing Why on earth would you use IE when Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox is available? If you need IE for a site , that means the ones who set the site up are behind the times.

Netscape 6.0 was the one I once had.Very bad version; swarmed everyone with popups. As for IE, I got Norton Anti-virus, I'm not afraid of Spyware! Smile

Firefox has a quality pop-up blocker and anti-spyware security measures built in. Norton Anti-Virus is not going to protect you from spyware, just so you know. Spyware isn't virii.

Download Ad-Aware PE - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
It will scan your system and remove any spyware on it, and I'm willing to bet you've got plenty (anyone who uses a PC will amass loads of it if they visit many websites at all). Preventive maintenance is the best kind. Wink

It actually does. Norton 2005 very effectively screens out and takes out adware and spyware. I run it all of the time after I use file-sharing which is where most of the adware and spyware comes from and not through your browser.

If you dont have 2005, you can get the June/July updates which will idenfies and scours out spy and adware.

You ought to be running third-party checkers like Ad-Aware to be sure. I'm down to a single computer, an Apple iBook, now so spyware and virii are things of the past for me. Wink

Polska, I advise you dump Norton. It's a huge hog of system resources among other things. Casey is correct about Ad-Aware. It is one of the best programs out there. AVG is also highly regarded and recommended. I use both and SpywareBlaster.
