you can fly if you want or you can take an overnite train from moscow to saint petes(or a fast train for that matter, they have a couple that make it in five hours). It saves a nite in a hotel and gets there via a bit of an adventure. You could even walk a bit around moscow if you take the overnite, just an idea!!!! That is what I am doing on July!

It should be no problem making that connection, providing you are at SVO airport, you still will have to go from SVO2 Terminal to SVO1 Terminal, look for free Aeroflot transfer service.

A first class ticket costs 2401Rbl last June, taken from price on ticket, second class would be about half of that.

I just did the Moscow-St Pete-Moscow with the Red Arrow going up and an express coming back. I paid about $178. The Red Arrow was great....the best roadbed I've ever traveled over.

The Red Arrow is a night train, but has a dining car. It leaves around midnight and arrives around eight in the morning. You will find a number of trains that leave around midnight. First class is for two people, 2nd for four, both are enclosed compartments, thus in a first class carriage you have only eighteen people, in second 36.

We had a two berth cabin. You get a box lunch of sorts and a woman comes around selling open face sandwiches, etc. We didn't see any need to use the dining car.

Hi, there !

I will be travelling from St Petersburg to Moscow in early September, would you recommend me to purchase the overnight train ticket (1st class) in advance ?
Am worried that they may be sold out since I noticed that you mention that the Red Arrow only has 18 1st class berths.

Looking fwd to your advice.

Cheers.

they do sell out ahead of time, but it is worth a try. There are two other nite trains that are good, #4 and #6, besides the red arrow.

You will find that the train has more than 1 first class carriage, each first class carriage only has 18 berths.
