Drop by the British Council offices to find English speaking people. They have a library there and resources for people learning English. They are located in the British Consulate on ul. Gogolya.
I don't know where the expats hang out in E-burg but you should go to the Old Dublin pub on ul. Khokhryakova. It really is an authentic Irish pub in Russia. The owners are expats. |

What is the best way to get to Ekaterinburg. I found that you now can fly in from London and Frankfurt. When you get the visa, can you do that so that your entry point has E and not Moscow or St.P . Also, any decent hotels in the city.
what is it like in August. Are all the people away for vacation during this time? |

It's a continental climate so it is HOT in August. It was 33 - 35 degrees when I was there last August. I bought a watermelon from a street vendor at the train station, then wandered down to a park near the town reservoir and split it on the concrete to eat it. Great fun. Continued down along the river Iset to the old stone bridge. There were several tent cafes selling beer and soft drinks along the way,
As for cities on visas, always include Moscow in case you have some need to change flight plans. I have always flown on Aeroflot to Moscow and then changed to another Aeroflot flight to Ekaterinburg. There is a hotel "Layner" at the Ekaterinburg airport which is convenient for early morning arrivals (or departures). But I only stay one night there and the rest of the time in the centre, hotel Iset or Transotel.
If you have time, take a day excursion to the Europe-Asia marker east of town and a stopover at the cemetery with the ornate Mafia gravestones. |

Today I received my visa for my upcoming trip in August to E-burg. It is over this time that there is a holiday of sorts there for the citi's birthday. Hopefully I will be able to get a room at one of the hotels that will take care of the OVIR for me.
Can anyone give me a list of hotels in E-burg that provide this service? |

| Any of the hotels listed with http://www.besteastern.com will be able to stamp your migration card for you, i.e. take care of the OVIR formalities. |
