Also, what do renovated rooms have vs. unrenovated (or how bad are the unrenovated rooms?) Trying to decide b/w these two for our september trip, since hotel Pekin has strange charachters at the bar. When will the hotel/accomodation section be updated and online? Many thanks Alina

If you mean the hotel reservation engine, we're working on it now, trying to find a good and reliable company to make reservations. Rossiya is huge, but it is just next to the Kremlin, the rooms and the service is not that good. Ukraine might be cheaper and the rooms might be slightly better (although this depends greatly on what kind of room you ask for), but it is located slightly out of the very city center (however, Arbat is very close). I can recommend you to rent an apartment, for the same, or lower price than a hotel you can get a very good accommodation in city center. Check out the offers at http://apartments.waytorussia.net

I am still unable to find it on your site, all I see is the Travel Services - > Accomodation Link, which bounces you to the page that has hotel reservations... I thought you might have some of the actual descriptions of the hotels

I should say the renovated room is much better. specially the bathroom, at least , the light is bright and the toliet looks clean! although the staff there is not quite friendly, the security is very tight! so you would not worry any terirost attack or whatever . but it is also a problem that all your guest have to apply for a permit to get in the hotel. and they are 'OFFICALLY' not allowed to stay after 11pm. I heard that hotel rossiya will be demolished soon, so why not stay there for the last chance in the europe largest hotel ask for a kremilin view or moscow river view room, at night, the view is breathtaking! I alwasy use www.select-a-room.com to book my hotel in russia. they are UK based company. very reliable and customer service is good. wish you have a nice tirp to russia!

Avoid it. Unless of course, you're in the market for whores and a slap case of Russian STD's. In that case, by all means, book a room there.

El-Casey Lounge Lizard Joined: 15 Apr 2005 Posts: 87 Location: Мелбурн, Флорида США	Posted: Sat Apr 30, 2005 7:30 pm    Post subject: I'm looking to come into town a few days early (compared with the SRAS dates and pending my visa receipt) and wanted to stay at the Rossiya for the simple fact that it will be bulldozed. I'm a huge history buff and I hate to see landmarks demolished especially to build new shopping malls. Can one get a decent room with a decent view for ~US$50-$60 per night? If it's old and rundown, I'm not paying $100/night to stay there. My main objective would be to get some great pictures of the Kremlin, etc. from balconies while I'm there, because once I get into my dorm room, I'll probably have a view of an alleyway with a couple of dumpsters.

The staff were quite polite and helpful and many speak English. Pricey though... Interesting building--one of the Stalin skyscrapers. It's a short walk to Kievskaya metro, but you need to at least ask someone for directions or show you the way. As for rooms, they are just average in quality and space. If you're going to spend a lot of time there, then it's not really worth the money. As for me the room was just a sleeping place--was up and about all day.

If it's going to cost me like $400 to show up a few days early, I'm gonna go ahead and skip that.

But it is not the fact that these type of rooms will be free. The average cost of the room in Ukraina is 180$. Of course the sum is depends on season. Hotel "Rossia" - the cheapest - 1 bed 75$ per 24 hours (+ 15 dollars breakfast if you want). These price for season 2005-2006. But the costs could change. But, IMHO, I would reccomend you to stay in Hotel Kosmos - 150 doll per 24 hours (Space in englsh). There are not far from V.D.N.KH. - The Huge Museum-Exibition Area of Soviet Industry. There are stands some soviet space shuttle, airplanes and The Cosmonautic museum is not far from there. 10 minutes to the center. The cheapest hotel in Moscow, I know, is Hotel Voskhod - 30 dollars per 24 hours. Quite well place, 2 stars. But 30 min from the center (http://www.voschod.ru/en/)

You can find a hotellist here: http://xxx.xxxx.xxx But at the moment there are limited alternatives for 3 Star hotels in the center, since many hotels have been closed.
