| I'm arrive in Russia on June 10th. My flight leaves Russia on July 10th. This means ... arghhhh...that it's 31 days not 30. My ticket is nonchangeable. This means I'll have a problem with a 30 day visa. My invitation came yesterday, and it says June 10th to July 10th. What do I say on my visa application? The truth? June 10th to July 10th? Will this mean they won't give me a visa? What happens if I get it, will it be a day short? Am I totally screwed? Please, somebody help me ....... PS I'm in Canada, which states clearly on the site that tourist visas are only good for 30 days. |

That is a tough one. In the past when I have had problems with visas or needed to know ways around the rules, I just called the Consulate. Believe it or not, they will usually tell you how to get around the rules. They have told me to do things that I would never have thought of. I would give them a call and explain the situation. Considering you are just a day over, they may just tell you to submit the visa application as it is. I would just not give any info that would identify you.
I did have a problem a few years ago in which my flight was overbooked. I also had a 30 day visa and ended up staying in Russia for 31 days. No one said a word when I left. Perhaps if you get caught when leaving the country you could just tell them that you missed your flight or got bumped to another date. |

My wife, a russian citizen with valid external and internal passports, is stuck in Frankfurt un der Main ,with our 3 year old girl (US passport). I am also a US citizen.
Lufthansa is not letting my wife leave for moscow without a visa in our daughters passport, My wife has an invitation and a blank migration card with her, issued by her parents who live in moscow.
When my wifes international passport was renewed in 2004. The consulate in San francisco, which took 5 months to do this, indicated that renewed international passport could not include her daughter in the passport. The russian consulate, in Bonn, hung up the phone when called and after 3pm local time would no longer answer the phone.
Also a Russian citizen needs a VISA to move around in Germany, even to go to a hotel. Since its friday afternoon lufthansa called aeroflot which said to send both all the way back to the usa and keep the the airfare money.
I would appreciate any help that any one might give, |

I had a friend who had the exact same problem a year or so ago. My friend was a Russian citizen who had two children, one was a Russian citizen and one was a US citizen as she was born in the US. In her case, they actually allowed the child to fly to Russia but they were arrested and fined very heavily. The problem is with your daughter, not your wife. All US citizens must have a valid visa if the person has a seperate passport from the parents. I believe all international travelers must now have their own passport, regardless of age. Your daughter has to have her own visa issued from a Russian Consulate. The only way that I can think of to fix this is to get a visa for your daughter. If they are sending both back to the US, they will need to obtain a visa from a Russian Consulate in the US. While that takes time, it is probably the only way to do it.
Believe it or not, sending them back to the US is probably a good thing. When this happened with my friend, they ended up paying thousands of dollars in fines to have this corrected once they were in Russia and were detained for well over a week.
Assuming that you are in the US, call the Russian Consulate and see if they can do anything. The Consulate in NY is sometimes very helpful (when they actually answer the phone). They can issue emergency visas in certain circumstances. |
