Hi, can anyone recommend any good Russian shops in London. In particular I'm looking for places to buy Russian books (in Russian language).

Thanks
Steve

Steve-O,

Give these guys a call on 77345259, apparently they are near Trafalgar Square; but the person who told me has never actually been there..

Best of luck.

Incidentally, if you are after a restuarant, try Trojka on Regents Park Road..

Whilst some people may scoff at it, it's still at Primrose Hill, has authentic Russian, Polish, Ukrainian and Caucasus dishes, and is delightfully cheap.

Well worth the visit.

There is a thread in this forum where the user Wavetossed (who lives in the UK) provides links that should answer your question. http://www.waytorussia.net/TalkLounge/viewtopic.php?p=18146&highlight=#18146

Try using the search option next time before posting.

Foyles on Charing Cross Road has a really good selection of Russian language learning books including some literature. The best selection is found at Grant & Cutler on Great Marlborough street, south of and parallel to Oxford Street. They have a huge selection of books for native Russians as well as many language learning books. Their selection of dictionaries and readers is better than Foyles.

Somewhere up around Kings Cross near the RNIB is a foreign language bookshop that is supposed to be good but I haven't checked it out. I saw a reference to it on the UCL website.

Thanks Wavetossed, I will pass the information to my missus. I was just looking for someone with personal experience rather than visisting every shop on a huge list.

No need to thank me, Steve.. I take it you didn't try ringing that number?(which incidentally was given to me by a lady who works for a Russian-English newspaper)

I sincerely hope we bump into each other one of these days..

Shame on you

No offence meant Xela, the fact is that I am not in the UK at the moment so I have not been to any bookshops, or phoned anyone for that matter.

Thank you for your information, which I am sure will prove to be very useful.

None taken Steve,

I hope you do find it useful when you come back, because apparently it's the one most Russians use over here, as they specialize in importing too.

Of course you can go to the ones like Wavetossed mentioned, you can even find Russian books sold in Waterstones, but they just tend to buy in what they think would sell, rather than be in business for this sole purpose.

All the best.

Well, the selection in Grant & Cutler is as good as you would get in a typical Moscow kiosk selling books. And they will order in anything you want. They also do have staff who speak Russian and all the other languages that they deal in.

Grant and Butler may well be of quality, if not a little commercial, my point is that I was recommended this bookshop by somebody who knows.
Perhaps Steve could try both?

We both know that's a lie.

The shop is located in Central London, and provides delivery anywhere in UK.
