Is there a website where I can buy a bottle of real Russian vodka ? Preferably something mid to high range in quality. I am not sure if there are any laws in importing or exporting liquor.
Any help would be great.
Actually if someone was willing to send me a bottle of vodka. I would send them a few Schooner beer ( has the picture if the Bluenose on it a famous schooner boat from Nova Scotia ) you can only buy it in the Atlantic provinces of Canada. |

Cal,
Unless you live in the northern territory or lack transportation, it is hard to imagine that you can't buy a decent bottle of Russian vodka in Canada. There are lots of Russians in Toronto, have ytou checked there Are you looking for an exotic label? What are you looking for? |

Cal, you are not allowed to import liquor over the board.
You can purchase a bottle of Black Stallion vodka in your local liquor store. I can give you the CPSC code if necessary. (it even has the Russian writing on it). If you can't get in your province, I can send you a bottle.
Stolinchya is real Russian vodka also.
For Russians, a fair trade would be London Dock Rum for Russian Standard Vodka. Bailey's is also rare treat their also. |

| I know this is a bit off topic from the vodka, but related to alcohol nevertheless. Does anybody know if either Baltika or Nevskoe beer is exported to Canada or maybe even the US? |

| As a brewer of beer I found most Russian beers to be next to shitty. I had one Baltica(I think number 7) that was alright. But maybe that was because I had been there 3 weeks and anything different was good at the time. |

2cyndy;
Where did you buy it? Was it from a retail chain, or a local distributer? The reason i'm asking is because I actually like Baltika, and the second is that on my campus we're starting up our own russian club, and so we're going to be having a few unofficial gatherings, and I think that it'd be a neat treat to bring some Russian beer to the gatherings.
Thanks,

tdk2fe: The store Beverages & More has all Baltika beers (Light, Dark Drafts, etc) and some Russian vodkas that you dont catch in the US. Beverages & more is like a department store, but it only sells purely alcohol. You can get all sorts of drinks from all over the world there.
As far as I know, BevMo is only in CA and a few other states and I think they do ship out of state internet only. Check out their website to make sure. Its: www.bevmo.com |

| Cyndy, I was drinking Baltica during my stay in Russia. I bought it in various markets or kiosks. I found that most Russian beers taste pretty much the same. |

Buying imported stuff all depends on the importer and the distributor. Some carry it, some don't. The bar I called my second home back in Florida had nearly 300 beers (down from over 350 a few years ago), but a lot dried up because the distributors dropped them. A lot of it depends on the state laws as well. For example, they could get (and had) Tinkoff, but could not get any Baltika at all - I asked.
I've had Baltika 3, 5 and 7 here and I enjoyed them all. We drink mostly 3 and 5 because it's so readily available and you have to buy individual cans instead of 6- or 12-packs (they really need to introduce that here) from our local kiosk right outside our dorms. After a week in Germany I wasn't sure if I could dig Russian beer but Baltika has pleasantly surprised me.
With regards to Stolichnaya, it is considered "real" Russian vodka but it's distilled and bottled in Latvia. There's a class action suit against its US division in California because of that. |

Thanks for the link... it looks like I can order some over the internet. Unfortunately, it looks to be a little more pricey than 30 rybles, but what the hell
I'll have to say tho that after I came back from russia, I can't even stand the taste of Bud Light or anything like it. Not that it was great before, but I want to weep every time I have to drink it at a party or something here in the states.

I was looking for an exotic label and somthing that actually was made in Russia. I found that most of the vodka that I had looked at that had a Russian sounding name was actually made in North America.
I am in a rual community of Nova Scotia too which may have a big impact on the choices. Next time I am in Halifax I will have to take a look I am sure if they sont have it they can get it.
Paul I am going ot take a look for Black Stallion vodka I may have missed it on the shelf if I cant find it I will definitly contact you
Thank you very much for the info |

""""ABC's 20/20 on vodka
Did anyone see 20/20's special this evening on vodka? They took several Manhattan bar going "snobs" who thought they knew their drink of choice - vodka, and gave them a taste test to see if they could pick out their favorite, as well as rank them from top shelf to house. Not surprisingly, they all failed. But amazingly, they picked "Grey Goose" as the worst of the 6 shots. Most described it having a terrible, heavy after taste, and wouldn't use it to clean off wounds.

Believe me, after 6 shots you won't care about the subtle flavours that seperate the good from the very good because your tongues are either all numbed by the freeze, or simply a little drunk already. |
