init6 (El Casey): I would like to add one thing, though. Please don't talk about Lenin and what he tried to do until you really study this subject. We were tought as kids that Lenin was wonderful, then during the first years of freedoms we were told that Lenin was great, it's Stalin who made things bad and ruined capitalism. Then later on all the real truth came out that Lenin himself directed death squads, he destroyed multi-party system and ordered to nationalize farms and all private property which lead to massive poverty and hunger - millions of people died. Then he was instrumental in organizing the Civil Was in Russia which also led to many deaths and total crash of Russia as a powerful state. And he destroyed all the democratic institutions that existed, created the basis and foundation for the theocracy.
Maybe when you think of socialism you think of countries like Sweden where personal taxes are high and the income is more evenly distributed than in the US. But socialism that russian-style had nothing to do with this kind of system. Sweden just like the US is based on free markets, respect for private property, multi-party system, freedom of the press and speech, etc. It's mostly taxation and benefits (health and education) that makes it different from the US. |

It is true that many people still beleive that the communist utopia died with Lenin and stalin make it a dictature. Actually Lenin created this dicture and he came to power because he simply assasinated his opponents (including the whole Romanov family).
It was under Lenin that the most terrible instrument of oppression called Tcheka (future KGB) was created, wasn't it ? |
