I am a college-aged student and will be living in St. Petersburg during the coming school year. (10 months). I am very interested in being able to work with (volunteer) some sort of social services while I am there. I spent the past school year as a live-in volunteer at a shelter for homeless families in San Francisco, and this is a career field which I am interested in pursuing. I also want to know what the situation is like in Russia, and would love to be able to help in anyway that I can. Does anyone have contacts they can connect me to? I have a very beginning basis of Russian, and will be studying it during my time there. I may be able to help, for example, children with their English. I have read about some organizations, some even bases out of the US, that are operating in St. Petersburg, but I cannot get contact information for any of them. Please send me a message if you know of anyone who can help me.

I, too, am going to live in St. Pete for the 2004-05 school year. i'm going to study Russian at SPBU. . . but I've also been pawing around for a little volunteer work to keep busy and to keep sharpening the old Russian language skills. Most of the volunteering I've seen has centered around churches and orphans. I haven't quite decided what to do yet, but I'm sure it won't be difficult to find something. ---Naomi
