Hi, thank you for this wonderful very informative web-site. I have a question.
I'm a Russian citizen, just got the Green Card, so my husband and my 12 month old baby (both US citizens) are planning to visit my family in Chelyabinsk for holidays. I don't want my family to go through this trouble with OVIR with the invitation, so do you think it's Ok to get them tourist visas (does my baby need it too)? Or I will have trouble with that because they are going together with me and obviously they are visiting the family? |

| These registration regulations are a pain in the ass. You should be able to get a visa that lets you stay with friends and family as well as at hotels. I love some things about russia but this is definately not one of them. If registering was more flexible then people would comply and follow the law, hell I would even pay for the oportunity to comply and keep your country informed where I am as a foreigner. |

| Jubilee: Of course just get them russian visas and register those visas at any travel agency that specilizes in russian travel or at any mid-priced hotel (you give them $20-30 and they register your visa). All of those are just formalities. You don't want to deal with OVIR, you are absolutely right. |

Please, note, that the information your husband provides in the visa application form should be the same as in your invitation. Thus, if you're getting a tourist visa and you will write as a purpose of your visit "Visiting Family" there's a good chance you will be refused a visa. People get tourist visas with the purpose of being tourists. |

Just came back from the travel agency in NYC. So hopefully my husband and son will get their tourist visas in about 2 weeks.
Thank you all for your help and advice. I'll keep reading the forum for more useful info. |
