Officially, Russia does not use right-hand drive cars. But they are common in the area around Vladivostok because they are so close to Japan.

You'll find lots of RHD cars throughout Siberia. They are imported from Japan and either driven/rail freighted from Vladivostok for delivery/sale elsewhere. The volume might have gone down due to one of the transport ships overturning in the docks in Japan though.......

Officially, both right-side and left-side steering wheels are allowed. About a month ago, the Duma tried to make them illegal, but the motion failed, so there's nothing 'unoffical' about them.

They ARE common in the Far East (Vlad, Khabarovsk, Chita, etc, etc, but you can usually spot one or two a day in Moscow as well.

It's more simple to turn road's direction in the Far east to the english style, then to make right-side cars illegal Smile In my opinion.

I found lots of RH drive cars in Siberian cities as well as the LHD..
traffic is quite dense in the cities and chaotic..I have been in traffic jams 9pm at night..
It;s rather odd to see cars coming at you with people driving both RHD and LHD

I may be stupid, but you are saying that cars in Russia are like the ones in England, speaking of steering wheels?

We also have a lot of them in Afghanistan. Officially they cannot be registered, but they sport Dubai license plates and officially are in transit only. I think they should be banned alltogether! The amount of accidents caused by them is incredible. When people try to pass busses or lorries, they have to go all the way onto the left lane and frequently end up in a head-on collision. I have seen a lot of them...
There are shops that specialize in converting them. It typically costs about 1000 USD for conversion to LHD. The parts come from shops in Dubai.
Cheers,
