I'm sure men have a lot to say about this but I'm really interested in hearing from other foreign women who have travelled to Russia or who live there. Maybe if male posters want to discuss this, they could start a new thread. Very Happy Please don't be offended but I really just want to hear a woman's view.

My impression from reading this site is that Russia (at least the major towns) has become a sleazy sex tourist destination which really puts me off going there. We were planning on travelling to Moscow next year so that my daughter can attend a course, however I have the impression now that Moscow is not the kind of place for families with small children. I'd be interested to hear just how bad you found it there. Is this sex tourism something that you are confronted with a lot of the time? Is it similar to say Bangkok?

Thanks

like Bangkok? No way! Just that the guys love to talk about their conquests doesn't mean that Moscow is a sex tourism destination.

sorry - I am not a woman Smile
But I think you got the wrong impression.

Everything there's to enjoy in life is available in Russia, especially in Moscow. But one has to specifically look for those things, go to clubs, look on the internet, in magazines, etc. It's not something you see on the street unless you really look for it. Walking on the main streets of Moscow in the center of the city, you would not even know about any of that.

It's like saying: I won't go to Las Vegas because of it's seedy reputation, yet 40 million peolpe do every year.

Remember that Moscow is a city of 10 million people.

You definitely got the wrong impression. I have been to Bangkok twice and frequently travel to Russia, and you are comparing apples to oranges. Do not always believe what people say in the forums. Most of it is said tongue in cheek and does not reflect reality. Russia is definitely a great travel destination for all kinds of people and families. So is Bangkok also, but they are quite different.
Cheers,

Ok well thanks for the replies and in particular for the pms which really did confirm the impression I had received. So we'll scrap Moscow! I don't think it sounds like the right place for us. We don't really need to read the Russian site information now, so how do I cancel my account? Could someone let me know please.

Thanks again

Why is that when anyone decides to leave this site they always insit on cancelling their accounts or asking mods to delete all their posts?

Just don't come back to the site, simple enough...

Sure you can just log out and leave. But it is generally best to cancel an account since you have left your information there. I just couldn't see a button on the web page for doing that.

Yawn, why bother. Just stay at home! Actually I'd rather be doing that with this drizzly weather...

Take the kids to the Calgary Stampede, it is an opportunity for the kids to see how their great-grandparents lived and worked. Not to mention, all the cool and sweet rides that the midway has to offer.
Also, be sure to check out "Heritage Park", it is like stepping into a time machine as you walk thru the gates, back 125 years. Extremely informative and educational.
A short 1 hour drive west of Calgary, you are in the world famous "Banff National Park" just inside the glorious Canadian Rocky Mountians. A year round playground for all ages, also offering some of the best world class ski hills, as well as some of the best snowmobiling you can find anywhere.

I would really like to read those PM's and find out what scared her away from Moscow, I know there are strip clubs and prostitutes in some places, but Moscow is a big city with alot of interesting places and I have never felt it was any worse then Chicago or other large cities.
