A girl from russia and I have been writing. I was trying to arrange a cruise or vacation for us. She would need a passport the cost for the passport is 200 euros, medical exam. fingerprints, etc increases the costs. The total for the passport, visa, etc would be more than 400 euros. this seems high . Are these costs customary for russia? is there any alternative? can I pay directly for these items with credit card? any thoughts?
Thanks

It is too much and you are getting ripped off. It is about 40 USD to get an external visa. Even with help, a passport is maximum 100 USD. Visa well that depends on where you are going.

Basically you are getting scammed by these prices.

The passport costs less than 10$ if your girl goes to OVIR herself. If her time is more expensive than 200 Euro she may pay this money to any travel agency.
Fingerprints.. May be it is something new, but it is not so difficult.
Medical exams have never been requested.
Are you sure that your girl is really interested in going somewhere with you and wont disappear after she receives your money?

[Thank you Ekaterina! I am unsure if I am being scammed or if she is being scammed and is passing on bad information. I think it is unwise to send money except to a reputable travel agent or some agent that is obtaining the documents. What are your thoughts please? I know you live there so you probably have a better idea. Is there one person that can take care of these things. like a travel agent or lawyer? Do you live in Moscow? My dream is to meet and marry a russian woman but it is difficult to know who to trust. Thanks for your thoughts

Why Russian? Why do you pick a nationality versus specific characters of a person that you find attractive and positive?

Dave, yes, I live in Moscow. Where does your girl live?
If she can't spend money for the agency, her time is cheap and she may go to OVIR herself. She will visit it three times: first - to learn what documents are requested, second - to bring the documents, third - to get the passport.
If your girl lives in Moscow she has enough money to pay herself.

Ok, we've all been there before (on this forum)--be very careful of your Russian (or any other nationality for that matter) 'penpal' girlfriend who asks you for money up front. Do NOT send any money to anyone you have not met face to face before or do not trust. And blah blah blah about the advice on romance. Offer to return the money after you meet, or do it through a reputable agency (i.e. not on the girl's recommendation)

BTW fingerprints are nice, but they are optional for passports, the last time my brother in law checked.

Ekaterina, good advice btw.

She is in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. Maybe I should spend time in Moscow to meet someone easier to meet with.

Please keep all your drooling out of the Visa forum, thanks.

I don't care why you want choose someone's nationality over someone's personality or why one country's people are better than the other, but I don't want to hear about it here.

If not, I will split the thread to continue in Not Relevant where it belongs.
