I am planning a visit to Russia in the near future and need to so help with visas and registering myself on entry into Russia. I intend to fly to St Petersburg and stay overmight there, before visiting Novgorood. I am not planning to stay in an hotel in Novgorood but I have been invited to spend time with a friend in a datcha in that area. What do I put down on my visa application form as cities being visited and do I need to register in St Petersburg or just Novgorood? What information do I have to include on my visa application regarding my accommodation?

I would recommend you to register in St. Petersburg, not sure if it will be possible to do so in Novgorod if you're staying with a friend. Anyway, if you have a registration from a travel agency in St. Petersburg for the whole period of your visa, you can always say to cops if they stop you that you arrived just one day ago (and... uhm... lost your train tickets)... If you apply for visa support through this site, the registration can be easily done in St. Petersburg in 1 day ($20 charge, but valid for the whole period). See www.waytorussia.net/Services/VisaSupport/Tourist.html

You can put in St. Petersburg and Novgorod in your visa application form. Regarding accommodation -- put exactly the same info as in visa support letter. If it lists hotels, list hotels too.
