justinfraz,
Oddly enough, people have always known there are other people in existence. The further back we go, the more difficult it becomes to establish how much of an issue other cultures were for them, as written accounts tend to have a habit of diminishing with time.
However, please look up the correct definition of the terms Renaissance and the Enlightenment, and to which prior era they relate to, and then talk about moving forward.

Many major empires throughout history have been built largely without the use of ships, and relied heavily on land incursions instead.
Indeed, some of the most memorable empires of history have been built this way.
For example, the Persians:

The Greeks:

And of course, Russia:

Ships were being built and utilised for trade, travel and warfare several thousand years ago. From Noah to the Trojan Wars, ships allowed varying people to be united or isolated, depending on the ultimate objective.

More likely, as far as they knew: 1. There was more than one race. 2. And it was for this very reason they were racist.

Vitalsigns,
I missed on that? Are you joking..? |

Gul_Dukat,

There is difference between the kind of territorial racism animals experience, and the type that simply exists because the perpetraitor has little else to do, or does not know any better.
You are going by the idea that human beings are no better than animals, and are ultimately bound by the same evolutionarily behavioural patterns.
In which case why are we no longer having to compete with the rest of the animal kingdom.. |

For example, birds from different races/territories NEVER get along and end up fighting and competing. Tigers are also this way. Hyenas join together in groups and fight other groups of hyenas. Racism is natural. There is nothing that can be done about it. Only when people stay in their respective countries is when racism is somewhat diminished.

Yep. And wearing dead animals skins is perfectly natural also. Fighting for rights to mate with a woman in heat. <grunt, grunt> Perfectly natural. Getting angry and beating someone is also perfectly natural ... even the dumbest of animals fight one another.
Of course the point is, as humans, we pride ourselves on intellect and reason overcoming the most base of emotions or desires. We strive to bring ourselves above the animal state. That is the history of mankind and it is universal. Trying not to pre-judge someone based upon their race, their religion, the color of their skin, or the size of their nose, or shape of their eyes ... is what elevates us from being most base and vile.
So if you want to be a dumb animal and say it is natural, go ahead. Personally, I wish to achieve more than that in life and I expect more of myself and the people I know. |
