Hello

I obtained a visa support letter from this site. I am arriving in St.Petersburg on December 30 and leaving January 7. My last trip I registered my visa at 78 Nevsky Prospect. Will this agent be open
during this time ? If not where can I register my visa during this holiday time? I am staying in an apartment. Will hotel listed on support letter register visa if agent at 78 Nevsky Prospect is closed during this time?

Thanks

You don't need to register at all, as it is a public holiday from dec 31 to january 10.

well in that case if you want a concrete answer, contact your visa sponsor. even they may have different opinions, but the one that's handling your visa reg will have the 'right' answer.

oh goodness. well, yes go and see if they are indeed open, and try to register. If you are staying for less than a week, then I really won't bother.

If you are harassed by militsia about your docs during the holidays in the event that you didn't manage to register, quote this law (of course you should also insist to contact your embassy):

Quote:

Effective as of 1 November 2002 the new law "On the Status of Foreign Citizens in Russian Federation" (Law #115-FZ, issued 25/07/02)
Article 20-1 claims that "A foreign citizen, once entered the Russian Federation, must register during the first three working days after his arrival, at the order provided by this law and other federal laws".

Yes, thanks, I printed out the whole visa registration section to take with me and we will find some way of complying. Now that I think of it, I was there last year for the holidays and the OVIR office must have been open after the first, because I registered, but the vodka makes remembering when I did it quite a difficulty. I got my support letter from gotorussia, they are not being very helpful about the moscow office and if it will be open or not, and I am still waiting on the letter to take to the OVIR office in another city. I sure hope they come through because I leave in one week. I get the feeling this registration thing is going to be one big pain in the A$$.

Well, good luck but don't tear your hear out over that, you are only staying a week, and on top of that, during a holiday period. The only trouble you might find are corrupt cops, and you could argue that it's a non-working day etc. and your embassy told you that the rule was there was no need to register,,,

Hello guys,

I did contact my fiance in St. Petersburg and she will call a couple of places to see if they will be open during holiday to register my visa.
I hope the place at #78 Nevsky Place is open at least one of the days
I am there.I registered there last trip, and it was no trouble.

If they are not open, then I will do as mediashark suggested and just say
its a holiday time,do not have to register on weekends or holidays.

Also a helpful hint.I lost my passport (or pickpocket) on underground.
My fiance called, and I went to embassy, got temporary passport for $67.
YOU WILL NEED $150 USD to get exit visa from Russian consulate office.
This office is at the airport.Make copies of your passport,it helps.
All this took about half a day,and cost $217 USD,but it was not bad.
My fiance handled all the communication, she was great !

Thanks for the info, going to have to wing it, gotorussia.com told me one day and its been 3 or 4, so the saga will continue. I don't think that letter to the OVIR would do much good anyway.

I wish I knew a straight-forward solution as well. I was stuck in Krasnodar region with not even an letter from my sponsor to register at OVIR. Not that the OVIR guy was evil, he just didn't know what to do, and was told by the central dept. that he needed this letter, and suggested us to make some travel plans. Ended up playing with train tickets that we bought for 'yesterday' at the price of a chocolate bar...

I think it's a common problem when you're out in the sticks and your visa sponsor is out of the way. Not sure what to do either.
