| Why do so many Russian people born during the USSR time have no siblings? Was somehow a one-child family encouraged? Were working women too busy to have more children? Or is it because well-educated parents tend to want fewer children (theory of population "experts" )? |

That's weird that you've encountered that, b/c most people I know do have siblings.
Actually during the 80's and before, having more kids was 'encouraged', as my mom who had 3 of us was considered a 'mother-hero' for having 3 kids. This also got our family some small subsidies at the time.
I don't think people typically had huge families, but most had siblings. Perhaps during the 1990's that has changed, I am not sure |
