We're a group of exchange students studying in Jyvaskyla, Finland and we'd like to visit your wonderfull country. Of course the problem is the visas, we'd like to make this visit on the first week of December and unfortunnely I can't really understand your visa service. Do you need to go to the consulate to obtain a Visa? Or may you just send a photocopy of your passaport or something of the kind? Does the 30€ charge cover everything or do we have to pay something more at the consulate, if so how much? I'm sorry for all these questions, it's just that we'd love to use your service but we'd like to know more about it.
Thank you, John Leitão and friends |

Hi.
If you are going to come to Russia for not longer than 30 days, then you should get a tourist visa. It's very easy to get it.
Step 1: You should get an official tourist invitation (aka "visa support") which comprises an invitation letter and a confirmation voucher. It can be obtained at any Russian travel agency. The price is usually $30 to $60 US. You can obtain this paper through our website WayToRussia.Net. Just fill in the form at waytorussia.net/Services/VisaSupport/Tourist.html and your application forms will be forwarded to our partner company that processes visa requests for the visitors of our site. Please, note, that WayToRussia.Net is an information resource and we do not issue invitations ourselves, it is done by the company to whom we refer the clients.
Step 2. After you will have submitted your application form, the travel agency will reply you with a confirmation and payment details. After you pay (with a credit card), they'll send you the copy of your invitation (by e-mail or fax).
Step 3. You should then take your invitation and other documents required by the Russian consulate (usually, your travel passport, photos, visa application form - available in the consulate), and apply for a Russian tourist visa. You'll have to pay about $50 US for the visa and it is ready in about 7 days, depending on the consulate wher eyou apply.
So, the whole process should take about 10 days and will cost $30 US for an invitation + $50 US for visa application fee.
If when in Russia you'll be staying in a hotel, it will register your visa for free, otherwise, you should register your visa in the office of the company that issued your invitation. When you will be applying for an invitation, the travel company will send you the address of the registration office.
So, that's it. |

Dmitri,
It would be a good idea to check with Ovir re the requirements for a private invitation. They appear to have changed the rules as of early November and apparently have a new proforma. I was asked to supply a photocopy of my passport (showing personal details etc), Proof of Medical Insurance and Flight Details.
For "Guest".
Essentially, your friend has to apply to Ovir for an Izvesheniye (permission) which once obtained is sent to you. N.B. The regs state ONLY the original document is acceptable to be presented at the Embassy/Consulate.
You then fill out a downloadable application form, get all the documentation required together and present it to your Russian Embassy/Consulate. You then may get your Visa which from memory is a 3 month Visa..
Once in Russia you or your friend are supposed to go to the Ovir office that issued the Visa and get it registered. This can take anywhere from 1 - 3 days.
If you don't, I wish you the best of luck attempting to leave...........
I would not attempt to overstay this type of Visa at all.
In any case, read up at your local Embassy/Consulates Web-site.
Enjoy. |

I'm in Korea and planning to go home to Ireland on the train from beijing , hopefully stopping in Mongolia and Siberia. This site is a great relief as I have been getting so much contradictory information I was about to just give
away my money to an agency.
On the tourist visa application form and/or when I actually enter Russia do I need to name specifically where I am staying and do I need to have my onward flight to Ireland already purchased?
Also, do you think I will have much stress getting home by the 18th of April if I will be in Beijing by the 3rd?.
Given I don't want to use an agency am I inviting too much trouble upon myself, this is meant as a reward for a year of torment ! |
