My soon-to-be Russian wife and I have been dreaming recently of opening a cafe/bar in suburban Russia after our marriage, aimed particularly at passing/resident foreigners and middle-class Russians. I'm a Russian language graduate, so language is no problem, but I'm afraid bureaucracy will be. We have the finance to start up the business, although we will be bringing that in from the UK. Are we liable to lose $$$ just in transferring the money? And what other hurdles can people see? I appreciate that the business will most likely have to be in her sole name and we'll probably need a krisha, but we can live with that.

Maybe there are some websites I've missed that could give us some pointers?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give
Daniel

Daniel,
Not sure what "krisha" is, but depending on what city the club is in, you may have to "have a roof over your head", ie protection money paid to the local hoods. It's just a fact of business life.

I don't see too much problem with money coming from the UK, going out of Russia would be more of an issue.

As far as I know, you have two years before you will be audited by Russian Taxation.....in this case I would get your wife to canvass whether Bar/Cafe staff are generally paid out of black money as a rule. Naturally, I've never heard of this being done anywhere Rolling Eyes

Enjoy
