I happen to know for a FACT that multiple marriages have occured in the mosque, in which the man must pay some form of dawlry to the woman, then the man who runs the mosque be it sheikh, imam, mullah etc. Will then go and have them sign their names.

So, exactly which mosque is this, and exactly where does it happen?

What is a 'dawlry' ?

Sign names to what?

Talk about California dreamin'.

Smoke on, Lynndie.

Once again, you know NOTHING ABOUT ISLAM! You are asking me to tell you what occurs in a traditional islamic marriage, you are pathetic indeed!!! You claim to be married to a muslim woman, according to islam that is a great sin! Muslim women are not permitted to marry men from other religions, only muslim men are allowed to do this! I think you are just someone who is full of shit, and has to make up lies in order to feel special. As for the lyndie england comment, im sure you fantasize about that ugly troll, admit it, you think shes hot!!!
Laughing Laughing Why dont you go take a bath and clean yourself off after all the nasty thoughts you had about lyndie going through your sick twisted mind. Id rather not sit and dwell on the image of lyndie the butch england, ill vomit for sure!!

I lived in Tatarstan a while back. The muslims there, particularly in the past, were nominal muslims. I believe the conservative islam's influence there keeps getting strong, but still it will never be as conservative as it is in the arab countries. Muslims in Tatarstan are against intermarriage, but they will gladly bless their daughter if she marries some rich foreigner even if he's Catholic.

Wow, you are married to a tatar girl. That's pretty cool! What city was she from tripchick: Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Nab. Chelny?

Everyone mine as well convert to christianity if that is the case! Ive never understood people who bother to label themselves as a particular religion, only to turn around and cast it aside as soon as its inconvenient! Anyway dont ask tripchik about the wife he doesnt have LOL. Laughing Razz

[sigh] Religion was banned in the Soviet Union until 1986. Many muslims born prior to that date would not be practising anything to cast aside. This has nothing to do with inconvenience, more to do with someone called Stalin who bulldozed mosques and churches and sent anyone acting like a cleric to the gulag.

Here are a few observations based on my little knowledge of this particular region of the globe:

During soviet times, religion was not banned altogether, but was ordered to be a personnal thing, with no public displays of faith. Churches and mosques were built small and in the quiet places of the cities.
Remember that all stans are muslim and that this makes up more than half of the population of the ex SU.
One of the problems we are seeing now is that these muslim countries are developping fundamentalist movements from within which aim at turning these secular countries into islamic states. Chechnya and Georgia are the best cases, but the same thing is heppening in Kyrgystan, and Uzbekistan.
It is important to understand that this process is only happening through infiltration. The funding for these uprisings has always been traced to Saudi money.
The recent crack downs in these two countries were ordered by their own muslim leaders. They are quite happy to remain secular states, and in no way favor this radicalization.
They are quite similar to Turkey, in that people there drink, smoke, etc
This was the main reason that the soviets had problems in Afghanistan. There was widespread fear that the soviet secular system would destroy muslim values, etc...
But it is evident everywhere that the soviets were doing a very good reconstruction work here. But this was a historic event that the muslim world opposed it, and for some strategic reason, the west jumped in this war. For the west, it was a bonus as they could become involved in a war against soviet forces, sell arms and turn a good profit.
I think that no one knew what would be the long term effects of this war.
It is starting to become evident now, and still to many politicians prefer to keep their eyes wide shut!
Please stay tuned for more...

This is just Zhirinovsky saying something. He always has to say/insult/beat up something once every couple months so people do not forget about him. But I am not against allowing it. It should be down to the republics to decide for themselves. Russia is a federation afterall and it is a multicultural nation where the second religion is Islam, which does allow polygamy. In the meantime, the Family laws, which are federal prohibit it. The obvious technical problem would be this, lets say you get married - twice, lets say in Chechnya (where it would be allowed) and move to Kaliningrad (almost no muslims there - probably will not be allowed) what would happen? Would your two marriages be recognized as official? Right now, immigrants coming to Russia from countries that officially allow polygamy must choose just one wife, we do not recognize the other marriages as official. It would be beaurocratic hell.

first- let me thank you for your fine forum, I just found it!

Interesting hijack of the original thread- but having been to a (at least half, if not more) "Islamic" city of Kazan (the Tartarish of course, consider themselves, "Moslem"- I spell it this way, because my in-laws spell it this way- quaint.

Islam has as many different poeple and sects and habits as Christianity, if not more. Go to Azerbijan and see all those beautiful "Muslim" women dancing as if they were in a nightclub in LA. Same with Moscow and St Petersburg.

My Mother-in-law's nieghbors in her flat were Muslim, and, in fact, I went over there several times for tea. This is a big "no no" in Sharia law- having a infidel, actually several, into the muslim home, in a middle eastern country.

Muslims in Russia are as different from Arab Muslims as Irish Catholics in Ireland are from Southern baptists in Texas!
