The reason that there were some casualties in Chechnya is because there was no actual enemy to shoot at. Same thing with the American forces taking casualties in Iraq. They may be trained, they may have weapons, but when they are shot in the back from civilians, it is very hard not to take casualties regardless of the army you have. The ONLY option in this case would be to totally anihalate the civilian population, otherwise you will always have a guerilla war. (Which is what Stalin did to the chechens in the 50's) The Russian army would most likely destroy any enemy in an actual war (no guerrila warfare, I am referring to a country) In the case of the United States, we would just destroy each other, and in the time it takes for our ballistic missiles to reach each other - about 20 to 30 minutes. This is the exact horrific scenario I had nightmares at night about as a kid . . . waiting out the last agonizing 20-30 minutes of life. Waking up never felt better.

Prill Frequent Guest Joined: 21 Apr 2005 Posts: 17 Location: united kingdom	Posted: Mon Jan 30, 2006 12:59 am    Post subject: Unfortunately I am too young to have been around during the real cold war,being born in summer 87 ,which being about the time that michail gorbachev was starting to try and capitalise eastern europe, I never really was able to experience the real cold war. although I remember when I was 3 being told by my parents that in russia ,people have to walk around in greyish black coats and clothes and not say anthing to annoy the bad goverment.lol
