Does anyone know the rules when my Russian wife applies for a settlement visa re her Russian Passports. My main question being, does she have to change her surname to mine, before applying at the British Consulate for said Visa.
many thanks

I am assuming that you are marrying in Russia.

When she files her VAF2 at the consulate, then her passports (domestic and international) must show her correct name. If she did not change her name at ZAGS, then there is no problem. If she did take your surname, then not only does the documentation have to have the new name, but it has to be spelled the same in all documents. This can be tricky because the official russian documents are in Cyrillic. After a name like Murphy is written in Cyrillic, it could be translated back as Merfi or Murfi or Murfiy. They will not like this.

But then, you are on the wrong website. You should look for websites with UK visa information such as the UK embassy in Moscow website.

Hi, many thanks for the information.
We are still trying decide the best way forward si any information is gratefully received. We are looking at here to either come here on a fiancee Visa, or, get married there and come over on a spouse visa.
I have looked at Consulate websites the lot, but in the end there is nothing like someone with experience to explain, as you did, the why's and wherefors.
Regards
Bernard
