| If anyone can help me would be great. For weeks I've been trying to call this Russian woman on her mobile. She is from Smolensk her phone# starts with 8 (905)....-.... I've read in this sight that there are ways to call to a mobile number. I am not having any luck at all. I believe this 8 means its a federal digit. My Russian girlfriend emailed and told me that the signal is not strong enough for my call to reach her. I am calling from Miami to her but no luck. Is There anyone out there that can help, please. I need to reach this woman..Gsurf30 |

First off, I'm no expert at this so bear with me. However, I call my friend in St. Petersburg on her mobile and it usually works.
First dial + (the plus sign on your cell phone), then try using 7 as the country code rather than 8.
So it would look like +7 905 ... |

Hi Gsurf, or can I call you G?
She's given you the number as if you were dialling from inside Russia. 8 is indeed the 'another city/mobile' digit, and should be replaced by 007 or +7, either work. The (905) is usually the mobile phone operator code so should be OK to dial the rest of the number.
However, it could cost a fair bit if you don't have a cheap call card. Google 'cheap call russia' for info, or search this site. |

Calling cards are even cheaper. I use a telecoms firm in the UK that lets me dial mobile-to-mobile via a number that counts as my included free monthly minutes for only 1p a minute. But deals are much more readily available in the USA so I was just giving him some guidance. My own experience with Skype was pretty mixed and unreliable so I didn't mention it. |

I have a calling card from the USA to St. Petersburg on her mobile phone.
Dial a service number and your pin number, then her number.
She has megafone and they do charge her a small fee when i call her on mobile.
Make sure if you buy calling card it is from USA landline to russian cellular. |

| It might be that you can't call her from the states because of her cell phone provider. It is most likely to be either MTC (pronounced MTS), Beeline, or MegaPhone, and the only one of those that I know for sure has regular US-Russia service is Beeline. |

Try this then...
http://www.beonline.ru/portal/comm/send_sms/simple_send_sms.sms
You should be able to text her (The page is in Russian, but it's easy to work out). The dropdown prefix selector has beelines 905-xxxxxx second from the top.
