Hi! I'm gonna go to Moscow and study there. When I've been reading info from school it says I should register my passport with the moscow police... I thought schools could take care of the registration and stuff... im really confused now... Confused can someone explain this to me please?!

If you have a student visa, your school should register it for you. That is the only legal way. They could also send you to register it by yourself at a local OVIR, but it would require a paper from your school.
If you have a tourist visa, you can register it either by yourself (through the local police department or OVIR), in a hotel, or through the travel agency that arranged your visa support. Same for business visa.
Private visas are registered with local police departments or OVIRs.

Ok thanks! I will get a student VISA so that's kind of strange. I need to ask the school what they really want. So I have another question. I got my VISA invitation today and it says something on it that my visa will last from 23rd August to the 21 of October. So this makes me confused again. I'm going to study in Russia until June next year. So what am I supposed to write in my VISA application? I mean can I write a date next year?
