Hello all,

I'm just really curious as to how Russians bother younger and older, view tattoos and body art.My Russian friend has been freaking me out telling me to cover up (which I would do any way) and that only criminals have tattoos in Russia. Being coffee skinned too,he said to just be extra careful with personal appearance.Myth or truth? Just wondering as I was told the same thing about Indonesia when I went to visit my family there, but had no problems - all just a big myth.

Red,

To answer your question about tattoo's. I suppose it depends on what generation you ask about they feel towards tattoo's. Even in the USA some older generations think that they are the sign of evil, especially if the people are from a more strict religious background. There are several actors/actresses, as well as other popular Russian entertainers that are sporting tattoo's today. Many people in the military, or exmilitary have tattoo's, and yes, criminals do also. I have lived in St.Pete, and I have tattoo's of which it doesn't bother me to show them. Some memers of my Russian family there have tattoo's, it's really no big thing.
