Wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so here it is.

I've received three packages from home, all sent regular post. No problems, unopened, nothing stolen or lost. I think the fears of the 1990s Russian postal system can be chalked up to "outdated" now. Even so, it's not cheap. These packages were sent via USPS Airmail, but they still take 3-4 weeks to arrive. A 7.5kg box usually costs about $60-$65 to send this way.

Now the questions: It is correspondingly expensive to ship from Russia to the US? Do I have to use "Pochta Rossii" boxes, or can I reuse the boxes I've received already?

I want to ship back most of my books and probably some of my smaller luggage before I leave Russia, because I'll be traveling more after I leave and I don't want to drag four pieces of luggage and all my books, etc. around with me all over Europe this summer.

Thanks!

You're right. This kind of posts is hard to place for the mods as well. Valuable information for (to-be) students and expats, yet not really provided for in the folder structure.
