Is there such a thing as a public notary (or the equivalent) in Russia? Someone who is licensed to certify legal documents and the like. What would such a person be called in Russian? Do they have them in most major cities? How much would they charge, approximately, to notarize one legal document?
Thank you very much in advance for your help! |

first--please read the forum rules. don't post duplicate threads.
there are public notaries. they are called 'notarius'. if the document is legal they will charge a few dollars for a notarization, or translation where applicable. there are several in every major city. |

Miami,
I think what you really need is an english speaking notary public. If the one you get doesn't speak english, certification of a foreign language document becomes tricky. What they wind up certifying is that the copy is a certified copy of a translated document, not that it's a certifed copy of your original. Hair splitting? Unfortunately it's a gulf in legalese terms.
It helps if the notary public has a "trusted" or certified translator or agency.
I'd put some serious thought into whether it's better to do it all in Russia or wherever you live.
My wife an I got absolutely everything translated, certified as translated and notarised after that. 3 copies too just for sh*its and giggles but the effort was worth it for us as a certified translation here in OZ co$t$.......
Enjoy
