German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has adopted a 3-year-old Russian girl, the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported.

The newspaper said the girl, Viktoria, came from a Russian orphanage. She has been living at Schroeder’s private home in Hanover, together with his wife Doris Schroeder-Kopf and her 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, for several weeks. The child lived in a Russian orphanage before her adoption.

Schroeder has had no biological children, but did help raise his third wife’s two daughters. That marriage ended in 1997.
Government spokesmen would not comment on the newspaper report, saying the story is purely personal.

Not at all. In fact Germans are very much respected in Russia. I felt Russians are also respected in Germany when I went there, although my friend told me that Germans are somewhat weary of lower-class Russians who come to Germany to work and spend their days drinking vodka. But generally, the two nations are in a very good relationship and by the way, Germany is the major Russian international trading partner.

No, not at all. Only people who actually participated in the war +70 years old may have something against Germans.

Just my 2 roubles here...I traveled with a group of german motorcyclists thru russia and could witness the reactions. WW2 was often a subject of discussions, but there didnt seem to be any resentment amongst the population. We even stayed in a sanaotorium in Mias full of war veterans, and they didnt try to kick the german bikers out! Laughing
The main annoyance for germans might be...the war films on tv. They play them very frequently and it was quite odd to see a cafe filled with 20 germans peacefully eating their borsht while watching a WW2 film where germans obviously did not have the heroic role.
