Hello -- I'm trying to put together a five night Golden Ring trip out of Moscow and am running into difficulty.

1) Suzdal Hotel -- E-mail query of 15 March is unanswered; 20 March follow-up unsuccessful: "mailbox full" at suzdalhotel@waytorussia.net What's the problem here? Exactly where is the Suzdal Hotel? Since we'll be traveling via train, we need something in town and within reasonable walking distance from train and major sites. We'd like to stay at the Suzdal Hotel if the location is right.

As someone else posted, Likhoninsky House E-mail is not functioning -- aksenova-museum@rnt.vladimir.ru.

2) Transportation from Suzdal to Yaroslav, Rostov-Veliky, or Uglich -- we want to move from one side of the "ring" to the other. Perhaps hiring a car and driver for the day is the most efficient use of time. Any suggestions on how to manage a hire or is bus transportation predictable and reliable?

Our plan is to spend two nights in Rostov-Veliky and visit either Uglich or Yaroslav on the way and visit the other city via train or bus as a day trip. Given our time constraints, does this plan sound reasonable? Which city is most easily accessible from Rostov-Veliky? Which should be visited on the way to Rostov?

3) Sergiev-Posad -- We'd like to spend the last night in Sergiev-Posad before returning to Moscow for the overnight train to Petrozavodsk. Will we require advance reservations or can we pick up a hotel room on arrival? Some of the horror stories posted here regarding Visa registration problems make me a little nervous about winging it, but we rarely make reservations ahead when we travel in Western Europe. Having been to Russia before, I know Russia is different, but maybe things have relaxed a bit more recently????

4) St. Petersburg Apartment -- this task went like a charm and Daniel Basner has fixed us up with a wonderful-sounding apartment. Thanks for the information.

The internet is great with it works.

1) If the hotel's mails don't work -- they don't work... We'll be updating this guide in Summer, but for now it's better to phone to them.

2) Taking a car may be too expensive. For example, a bus Suzdal-Kostroma will cost not more than $7, but a car will cost about $80 at least. However, if you're people maybe it's ok.
