I have been to Russia twice previously - once on the business visa as a sporting invitation and once on a tourist visa - Jan 2003 . Before the Russian Embassy in Sydney granted the tourist visa I had to pay for every nights accomodation up front in 'approved' hotels through the Russian travel agency in Sydney. The prices of the hotels were much more expensive through the Russian travel agency than if I had booked them some other way. It was that or no visa.

I have friends in both Moscow and St Petersburg to stay with for this visit but would not subject them to getting me a private invitation.
I have read that agencies like yours for a fee give the accomodation voucher and the invitation.

What I would like to know is have you had customers in the last 3 months that have used your visa support service from Australia and who have Australian citizenship and have been granted a visa from either the Russian embassy in Sydney or Canberra. I beliueve there was problems doing this for Australian citizens who were using vouchers from the Traveller Guest House - hostel in Moscow and a hostel in St Peteerburg.

Any advice appreciated
thanks
Liz

Hi Liz,

We're not an agency, I always try to make it clear: WayToRussia.Net is the information resource about Russia and we advertise travel services on our website. Because we have special relationships with our advertisers, we provide better deals and personal support for those, who use their services through our site.

Now, as for your question, I will contact the travel agency that does visa support and address them your questions. When they send me the answer, I'll post it here, if I don't within 3 days, please, send me a PM to remind. Thanks!

Here's the reply I got from the visa company:

Dear Dmitri,

Please advise your client the following:

1. We really "for a fee give the accomodation voucher and the invitation".

2. We have many clients in Australia who actually receive Russian tourist
visa with documents received from us.

3. They apply and get their visas in both Sydney and Canberra but the
consulate in Sydney is realy difficult to deal with.
It's news for us what your client says about a Russian travel agency in
Sydney - that or no visa - but to be quite frank, we are not surprised to
hear this.

So if your client has a choice, let him/her apply to the Canberra consulate
by all means.
