I wanted to post this and this section seemed like the most suited place to post it. Wink

I just wanted to know how everyone feels about Russian men? I notice [well it's pretty obvious] that Russian women get all of the attention, but you never hear people talking about the guys over there. Shocked Which I happen to think is lame because they have the best looking guys on the planet. Laughing

So, what do you think? How do they differ from American men? What's the best/worst things about the 'general' population of men there?

aha...there you go.
i'm obviously not the only one who has noticed there's something special about russian men. or rather, men from the former ussr. i hvave met only a few russians, but all, i stress, all, of them were good looking, and very nice. moreover, i especially like the chechnyans, oh-my-gosh, they're all so well-built, masculine, and classically handsome. you might also find a couple of nice ones in kazhakstan and uzbekistan. i have had a few encounters with kazhak men, and they left a lasting impression...Smile

Greetings,

Well, the fact that there is not much to be said about Russian men is because first of all there are not that many of them. There are a lot more women in Russia than men, especially outside of the European part of Russia (Moscow and St.-Petersburg).

On my three month trip to Russia (from the European part to the republic of Buryatia in Siberia), I met only a few men, decent enough to have a talk with. In general I met a lot of men who are either weak-charactered and not able to resist the excessive use of alcohol, with all problems following. Of course they are not all like this, just I noticed it a lot and there are already not many men as I told you before (in comparison to women).

Another point is that Russian men haven't seem to start realising yet that a woman is not an object that has to be conquered and that has to obey his commands. That is also another important point why you don't hear much about Russian men, because they are not always the nicest persons for a man-woman relationship. That's why a lot of Russian women fall in love with foreigners and therefore you hear much more about them outside of Russia than about men.

I do not want to put a mark on anyone, especially not on Russian men of whom I have some very good friends. This was just my general observation, and some of what the Russian women told me when I was there.

Regards,

Michael

Dear Lizka,

I am Russian and have been living in the States for 2 years after travelingin Europe a bit...my long-term (boy)friend is Russian. Recently we cannot stand living together because, partly, for me it's getting obvious: he thinks that I became too "americanized" e.g. feminist man-hater, too politically correct and don't dress up for him as aproper woman should. Many male friends of mine at home are used to take girls' attention for granted and feel like a center of the universe. Although there're many who are not that way. It's pretty cool that you try to understand another culture; since I look Caucasian, sometimes people tend to overlook my background...

Indeed, I'm having easier time with some American men who seem to be more open-minded, confident, and laid-back. The whole "Russian bride" deal bothers me a great deal though; many guys my age (i'm 23) view me as an exotic foreigner and are pretty ignorant. When I don't want to date them they say that I am stuck up and don't want to work out the "cultural differences". Perhaps so. It's confusing for me, too. Still trying to figure out both types: Russian and American:) If you'd like to discuss this interesting stuff further, please email me at deardana@mail.ru

Best regards,
Diana

I just wanted to rebut one bit of nonsense quoted as if it were fact by previous poster Michael in this thread.

He said

I'll concede that this is true if you're talking about the elderly, but if you're talking about young to middle aged people, the numbers are close to identical.

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/rs.html shows that for the 0-14 age group there are more males than females (12.3 million vs 11.8 million). For the 15-64 age group, the numbers are 49.3 million men vs 52.4 million women. It is reasonable to infer that until about the 30-40 age group, men actually outnumber women.

There is no way that there are 'a lot more women than men'. This is one of the many untruths that have been offered by people trying to sell Russian brides to gullible western men.

You are right!! It is time for Russia to kill more of its youth so they can build another damn monument in Moscow. They are really good at it. Hi Ho Hi Ho off to get killed in Chechyn I go.

Russia is grand beautiful country, but the people have a traditional of misery. They remind of Prometheus. They are always in torment, but they always survive. Once things get better some leaders pride will get hurt and they will destroys everything.

I have talked to some many that want this cycle to end of thievery and war, but they are not willing to break their traditions and look at the outside world.
Chechyn 3 coming in 2004.

Hello everyone,

Since this topic is quickly going from social/sociological to political, I will throw in my two cents. I think it is sad that the majority of world citizens don't recognize the great losses Russia suffered during WWII. They lost more men than any other ethnic group during those years. Even more than the jews during the holocaust. Chechnya or not, so many wonderful young men died in that country, but all you ever hear about these days is the turmoil in the middle east. I was recently reading the population statistics for the world and the prognosis for Russian men in the future is fairly grim, not due to wars, but due to birth rate/death rate and health in the country in general.

Anyway back to the topic at hand: Russian men!

I recently met a young man in Russia who is beyond compare. He may be the only one of his kind but I can say that in all of my life I've never encountered one like him. He is extremely intelligent, honorable, honest, sweet, and supportive. Not like American men! After talking to some Russian women about this phenomenon, many say the same things that were said in earlier posts: women are objects, made to do all the work, etc etc. But my experience with this person is different.

So I think that in the younger generations (35 and under, for example) that the chauvanism people talk about is less the case now than it used to be (not a study, just a guess). One of my Russian gal pals told me that Russian men never talk about feelings and never do the loveydovey stuff... but when they DO say something you KNOW it comes from the heart, you KNOW they're not lying or playing games with you (unlike, say, a (theoretical) Frenchman might). To me, I'd rather have someone be honest with me than lead me on (been there, done that!). I think American men could learn a lot from Russian men! Opening doors for you, walking you home, insisting on paying for you... they are true gentlemen! Those are the traditions that we don't have in America that (to me personally) make all the difference!

I can report of at least one of the over 35 set that qualifies as non-chauvanistic! Smile With my usual luck, I can only figure I am not the only one to find such a gem. Wink

Recently, on vacation, I met one of the most wonderful, kindest, gentlest, talented, smart, understanding men I have ever known and he was a Russian. This guy singlehandedly turned me into a russophile.

If I wasn't dating someone else at the time, I would have been crazily in love with him but as it happened, vacation eventually ended and we parted friends .

I personally find Russian men very attractive. When I was in Russia over the winter I travelled alone, and unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to meet any.

I'm so glad someone else feels the same way as I do. I just swoon when I hear the male Russian accent!

Shew! It's about time we got on a real subject around here! Wink
I agree, Russian men are VERY attractive. What sets them apart is the masculine attitude and chivalrous demeanour. I fell head over heels for one when I was in Russia, he was kind, lots of fun, good sense of humor, and treated me like a lady. Unlike the men in America, who seem to think all young women are modeling themselves after Brittany Spears and want to be treated as such! Not to mention He was drop-dead gorgeous!!!! Wink

Ah, heck...he wouldn't have anymore luck with them. Judging by his taste, I'd say he should just stay single, and try enjoying it. Because I have a feeling, thats what he is going to be for the rest of his life!! Wink
