Message: I just received my visa for Russia, in addition stapled to my passport is a white piece of paper that has "Arrival Card" on the top half and "Departure Card" on the bottom half. Has this taken the place of the Migration Card, or wil we still have to fill our the Migration Card upon arrival at the Moscow airport? Thanks.

Don't know either what is for Arrival/Departure Card, just leave them in passport while you are in Russia, but you'll still need to fill up migration card at airport.

No it's not the same card, though it has the same information on it. Fill in a migration card on the border, or you'll find yourself in big trouble later.

Thomas is right: it's a different paper. You will be given a migration card at the plane while you will be flying to Russia. You should fill it in with exactly the same details as in your visa support (including the name of the inviting company, the place of your stay, etc.) and hand one part of it to the immigration control at the border. They will also tear your arrival card. On departure you will need to present the departure card (that will be left in your passport), and the second part of the migration card.

It just seems to be another piece of paper that no one knows what to do with it. It came into use when the old paper visa was replaced. They have yet to remove the departure part when I left Russia.

Ehrm, don’t throw that “departure card” away, travellers. They have now found out what to do with it: namely to collect it upon exit! If you have a multiple entry visa, you are supposed to make a copy of both cards and have a copy of the “departure” part stamped when entering the country. If you however lose these cards, then make two copies of your visa: upon entry they will keep one copy and stamp the other one and hand it back to you: this is now your “departure card”. This information is based on my experience from the Russian/Estonian border. I have been told that this is “official information from the Russian Federation”, but I would not know the source.
So remember, that while before April 2003 all you needed was a visa in your passport, today you are supposed to have:
- visa
- migration card
- arrival/departure card (copies if you have multiple entry)
- 2 copies of your visa just in case they prefer that (when I entered this time, the border officer prefered the copies of the visa and returned my arrival/departure card untouched) |
