Greetings all,
Going from UB to Moscow and thinking about stopping in Irkutsk - thing is the lake is frozen at the moment (or it was 10 days ago!!). Couple of questions:
1. Is there other stuff worth seeing?
2. Anyone recommend a good hotel that can register our Visa for free?
3. How easy is it to get ticket from Irkutsk to Moscow while there?

Cheers Smile

Hi,

I just come back from a 7 day trip to Irkutsk (14-22 April 2006) I spent the time in various museums, theatres etc

I found I had a full agenda for the 7 days. Yes Baikal is frozen, but it is worth the trip. I had a very enjoyable bus/train excusion around the south west side of Baikal

I stayed in the retro1 hotel - http://www.rus.baikal.ru/english/hotels/retro1/index.html. Its not the best hotel I have stayed, but it was located in a central safe part of Irkutsk. It has only 11 rooms, but the staff seem very friendly. They offered me free visa support.

I traveled to Irkutsk with S7 airlines from Moscow, and booked my ticket online - http://www.s7.ru . They seem very efficient and trouble free.

Hope this helps

Peter
