Spend time studying every day for at least 30 minutes (more if you have the time). Use multiple resources, such as textbooks, audio CDs, online resources, and practice speaking with others. And if possible, travel to Russia to get some practical use of the language.

After I visited Russia I decided to learn Russian. I am using The Learnables language program. I really like it, and it doesn't take very long to get through the lessons, so you won't get bored. But my advice would be....Practice, Practice, Practice!!!! And it definitley would help to have someone you can talk with. That is my delimma right now! Very Happy

Go here http://www.rusradio.ru/live/default.asp
and click on the gold button at the top of the list on the left, below the circle. This button has two words, both beginning with C

This station plays only Russian music and since Russian singers are usually careful to sing the lyrics clearly, you can learn a lot by listening.

http://www.rambler.ru/dict is the best online dictionary.

Use http://translation1.paralink.com to do machine translation of web pages. But beware, it isn't 100% accurate. It works best if you know some Russian so that you only use it to get through the difficult passages.

Check Google or Rambler from time to time. There is a *LOT* more free russian lessons than you can imagine. To find them you need to try different searches such as

Russian declension pronoun

or maybe

Russian literature vocabulary

Be creative in searching

Unfortunately, rude words seems to became a official part of russian language. Most of my friends can't explain how do computer work without using article "bla" and some other well-known words. They study in famous univercity, MIPT, and they are good students. Rude words are part of every-day life. Men use them frequently, women rarely or never. But if You want to understand somebody, you both must speak the same language. If he will say, for example "****** настал батарейке", how would you translate his sentence?
