Just wondering if there is a good website which transliterates from Cyrillic characters to Latinic. Do Russian people understand if you send them latinic transliterations? I actually understand Cyrillic, but it's easier to write in latinic on a computer.
Thanks for help

My (future) brother-in-law had an issue with some Russian guys on his internet forum. I helped him put some text together. I gave him a cyrillic text though and he preferred a latin. Later on though he did the transliteration by himself, using Wikipedia.
There are actually a few systems for transliteration. The English one is most common, though often transliteration is done in a terribly sloppy way Razz Any Russian will understand it, even if you make some mistakes.

Thanks, that reads so much easier. I forgot Cyrillic letters from school days.
I always thought that Serbia should abandon the Cyrillic alphabet, and they've done some progress on that, but now it's back to national pride and such things. I read that Russia was also thinking of abandoing the cyrillic at one point, but was too difficult.
The similar transliteration exists in Serbian/Croatian where letter ш could be 'sh' or 's' and it's understood from context though sometimes inadvertidly you write different word.

Cyrillic seems quite tailor-made to the Russian language. Once you can read it, it makes much more sense than latin transliterations, esp. because the spelling is usually quite phonetic.
