Christmas is a quiet religious festival that is only celebrated by Russian people who are devout churchgoers.

If you want to see some holiday fun in Russia then go the week before Christmas when they celebrate New Year's Eve. They bring fir trees into their houses, decorate the trees, put presents under them, invite friends and neighbors to come round to eat drink and be merry. Someone dresses up in red robes and a long white beard as Grandfather Frost to give presents to the kids. Forget about Christmas on the 7th, go for New Years Eve.
