here you go.

(oh, dont' forget to sign your message!)

as for sending directly between phones it really depends on both your provider and megafon. sometimes it's not possible at the moment. you could call your service provider about it.

It's a one-way thing. You could try other internet-sms services on the web, if she has internet access. Some might be a paid service though.

it depends on which plan she's using.
as long as her balance is not in the red, she should be able to receive sms. can't remember if sms sent from the megafon site is free for all calling plans, but i think they are.

It will depend upon both providers. I send sms text to Russia, and receive sms text from Russia almost daily using T-Mobile or Cingular. The Russian provider on their side is MTS. However, I believe in some cases I am sending to Megafon. Unless something has chaged, Verizon and Sprint allow one to send sms to Russia, but they are not able to receive sms from Russia. I am also able to receive at my phone text in Russian Cyrillic.

When in Russia, my US phone is usually roaming on MTS, or sometimes Beeline. Don't hold me to it, but when I use my US phone in Russia to send or receive a text sms, I think the rate is $.25 per in-bound and out-bound text sms. Actually, I believe it is the same rate per sms if I am roaming Internationally anywhere. UK, Europe.
Usually, when I am in Russia, I use my Russian phone. I also send and receive sms text to and from USA using my Russian phone. I honestly can not tell you what the charge is to send and receive sms text to Russian phone. When my account balance is low, I just stop at an MTS office and reload. However, I do not think it is all that expensive to receive sms text on Russian phone.
I am sure you can go to the MTS website and the charges will be listed.
If you can't find it, I am happy to check it out and get you more specific answer.

Check out >www.mtsgsm.com . I just took a brief look at the rates and looks like it is $0.25 per sms. I did not read all of the boiler plate stuff, but as far as I can tell from perusing the site quickly, the rate / sms is $0.25

Through the lovely spam from Russia, most IP providers reject SMS from Russia. Read through Brent postings I think. There is a service internationally that manages SMS. You pay a monthly fee and it allows you to receive any SMS from the world. I look it up, but I am too lazy.

I'm using MacSMS to send my friend messages while she is on vacation in Europe. This is the link to the Windows equivalent.

http://widgets.yahoo.com/gallery/view.php?widget=37122

But first you will need to download the Yahoo Widget Engine. Each SMS costs 10 cents USD. The instructions should be packaged with the Widget when you download it. Smile

I hope this helps you out!

I don't think it can be done (USA to Russia). At least it couldn't a few years ago, I know I tried. Maybe they have worked out the connections since then.
