Thanks Rick,
I just searched and found a discussion about the St P weather and Camrade had posted link to some pictures - unfortunately the site no longer has them, but the day he was referring to I was there, so I saw the flooding at first hand! |

Yes it's a pity the cam on the palace square never works. There has been a message there for over a year saying that it is temprarily unavailable. |

Yes, it seems appropriate to differentiate so that everyone can find their favourites quickly. I think we all have particular areas or cities that are close to our hearts. |

My apologies to Muppet, i accidentally ruined a post of yours while splitting. Here is the text and the webcam link you provided:
Have a look at www.ipnet.ru. Only a couple work, but they show St. Petersburg. Pity the St. Isaacs doesn't, as my friend's getting her son christened there today and it would be nice to see them all live.
We now have the webcam threads divided over the folders. Feel free to fill all of them up! |

LOL, some don't work of course...
I was walking along the Moika by that camera last August and there was a live power cable hanging down into the river, just where the tour boats were going by. I was the only one who was worried by this.
Similarly, this year at a new apartment I commented about the power sockets in the bathroom next to the bath.
When asked what I meant I tried to explain, saying: "What if you dropped your hairdryer into the bath, you'd be electrocuted..."
to which I got the eminently sensible reply:
"Well don't drop the hairdryer in the bath then.", accompanied by the 'soft westerner' look I've got used to.
Oh those crazy Russians... |

Or like my folks in Russia all drink tap water and if questioned why, say: Who cares, we are used to the bacteria and chemicals in it, it's not going to harm us. |

I crashed at a friends room in a komunalka in the centre of St Petersburg after a big night out and was just about to take a shower after waking up when my friend came into the bathroom to make sure that a certain switch was off. He told me that the electricity comes through the water if it is left on. |
