Hello there, i have a few very simple questions concerning visas and to the best of my knowledge this is the best place on the net to answer them.
- I'm a Englishman living in Murmansk with my Russian wife - we got married in England last month. My current visa lasts only until 23 Dec 04 Sad Which isn't great news! Is it possible to get a tempory residence permit in a couple of months for me? We have all the documents except the criminal clearence certificate, and all have been apostiled. Can it be done.
My second question Smile ( thanks for listening) Concerns getting an invitation using a company that sells them for a price. Is the process reliable? and will the origianal invitation be sent to my address in Murmansk within 6 weeks? If i do get the invitation will it then be possible to go to a Russian consular in Finland or Norway and then get the Visa for me, bare in mind i'm English. Do you know if it's possible or not and can you advise me on anything in my quest to get a visa for 1 year very quickly. I'm a desperate man and will welcome any advice from you.
Yours sincerely. Andy.

Hi Andy,

Getting a temporary residence is a very complicated process and unless you want to settle in Russia for your whole life, I wouldn't advise you to involve into this mess. Besides, you can do it only if your current visa is the private one. Otherwise -- not. Better wait until you are married for 3 years -- after that the process may become somewhat easier (as there are special simplified procedures for couples married longer than 3 years).

The easiest thing for you that can be done is to get a 1-year multiple entry business visa and renew it every year. This way you won't need to deal with paperwork and local bureaucrats, and will be able to travel in and out of Russia as much as you want. To get this visa, you should get the business visa support first. This can be done through this site. In most cases you will need original of the invitation, so if you apply now and ask them to send it to you by courier post (that won't cost that much to send it from Moscow to Murmansk), you'll get it before you leave. Then you go to Finland and apply for a new Russian visa. In our transport section you can find bus schedules between Murmansk and Finland, by the way (or you could fly of course).

Thanks for your time in answering my questions - with me and my wife living here in Murmansk it really is a realistic option going to Finland to renew my visa. I wasn't sure if it could be done - but you've set my mind at ease. (thx) As for the invitation; something of a headache, i'm hoping to either use a visa support company or get my wife's friend to maybe get us a 3 month invitation, and then look at the 1 year invitation. I'd like to get the 1 year invitation, but am really worried about the time it will take for me to have it in my hand. I guess i would have to go to Finland with the original document? Well because i've only got a several more weeks left on my current visa, i think i haven't much choice, time is running out Sad I'm just wondering how long it will take if i applied tonight?
As for the residence permit - i think what you've said about waiting 3 years is something we'll no doubt do, it'll be easier for us and besides after this year we're going to move back to England for a while - after that we're coming back here so after this year the visa pressure will be off Smile

All this visa stuff is a real nightmare! I hope one day for other people like myself things will be a little easier. Maybe Russia will oneday become part of the EU...now that's not a bad idea.

Thanks again. Andy
