didn't realize that the only money changing at the airport would be before security, so ended up back in the US with a couple hundred dollars worth of rubles. I know banks here won't take 'em, any other ideas?

Hang on to them.

The Russian government has imminent plans to make the ruble a convertable currency, which means that you will be able to exchange them into other currencies in countries outside of Russia. Wait a while, I think it will happen.

Over the past few years the dollar has been sinking against the rouble. Not sure what will happen when it is convertible at last.. But I'd keep them for the time being or maybe exchange them with someone I know (personally) that went to Russia at a fair rate.
