Can you let me know if the border crossing between Russia and Georgia (south of Vladikavkas and Kazbegi) is open for foreigners. We are German and will be traveling by car.
In case the border is closed for us, is there a (car) ferry from Russia to Georgia?

It was open to foreigners in 1999 when I went. I think there are a couple of different border crossings. The one we used consisted of a long series of checkpoints rather than an official border.
