Hi (Privet),

This is my first post. I didn't know what to discuss or talk about first so here it goes.... (the topic is a bit more relevant right now due to current elections in many countries especially the U.S. and Ukraine).

I was wondering what the opinion is regarding the current state of the Russian government. I hate politics myself but I am still curious. I know, I know, there are various opinions but for myself, I am concerned about Russia's current predicament. IMHO, Putin et al. is curbing freedoms and yes, I do obtain this info from various Russians in the mainstream news.

I do admit, I am very opinionated and I believe I hold a lot of different views which do not subscribe to any mainstream viewpoint. However, I can't help but think that Russia is still in trouble politically (as well as economically). I am not a fan of Putin.

Someone on here asked who the greatest Russian is. I took a Political Science course at school about Russian politics but I have forgotten any of the big names (who benefited Russia). However, I would still suggest the greatest Russian would be someone (guy or girl) who never got mentioned , was overlooked or didn't get enough recognition to be considered so that his/her name would pop up in people's minds. This isn't just inherent to Russians but anybody anywhere. It's just the way it is. For e.g., if people didn't listen or fought against the Lenins, Stalins and Yeltsins (or name any so-called Russian reformer), perhaps, they are not in the predicament they are today.

I'm interested in other things Russian, don't worry. As crazy as it is, I found all the discussions 'about Russian women' interesting.

I have tried to learn some Russian. But, I haven't been on a computer in Russian sites for quite some time now. But, I'm probably going to concentrate a bit more on learning Chinese but that's another story. However, there's a lot more sites (in English) to help people learn Russian, it seems. I might still try to learn more, though and/or refresh what I have previously learned.

I hope some people here are interested in my contribution to the forum. Thanks.

Privet to you too.

Surprisingly, I found myself willing to post a reply in the thread concerning politics. I'm not sure if this thread will cause a nice flame war (most politics or religion discussions usually do). I just wanted to voice my thoughts on the subject.

The Chinese say the best emperor is the one that people do not know of. You and I both agree with them. None of the Russian politicians - chiefs, kings and presidents included - is worthy of being called "the best". And Putin is just a generic Russian leader - trying to regulate every aspect of the people's life. Well, as a result, life does not just flow in Russia, it thrashes about like a monkey trapped in an electrified cage.

To quote the American media - "who is Mr. Putin"? No one knows him well enough. No one knows what's going on in his mind or why does he make the decisions like giving away the Russian territory to the aforementioned Chinese. He is amorphous.

Russian political and economical future? No one can say what is to come, like no one can predict what will the poor monkey do to the mad scientist should it get out of it's electrified cage.
