Can I get this form, and translate it to English, so I could put Apostille, maybe this way I don't have to travel to Russia to get this document legalized overthere.

US citizens who intend to marry in Russia must complete the attached standard affidavit form (svidetel'stvo) in which they state their current marital status. The attached form must be completed in Russian and notarized before a US Consul. The transliteration of your name should be identical to that on your Russian visa. The American Citizen Services Unit of the Embassy offers notarial services Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the cost is $30 or the equivalent in rubles. Russian authorities consider the document valid for only three months after a U.S. Embassy consul or vice consul notarizes it. Green card holders and other legal permanent residents are not entitled to this service

Well, I initiated the first move on this topic very shortly after it was first created. It was originally posted in the Moscow folder. I did not feel this was the appropriate place. So, after careful review and consideration, I moved the topic to Talk Lounge, (where it was destined to be thrashed to pieces by other forum members like a pack of ravenous wolves, of course).

But, shortly afterward . . . it was moved very quickly to the trash bucket for some reason.

In the beginning, I considered moving the original topic to the 'Non-Relevant' folder, but considering certain rules . . .

The mods are off-topic here.. :O

I think this folder is fine. Marriage is a lot of paperworks in the first place. Now, is anyone going to answer this guy's question?

I think it is possible to get this paper in the US from the relevant government body, but it has to be Apostilled or something and translated into Russia. The Russian embassy should have some answers. Otherwise they would point you in the other way... which you already quoted from the website...

The only reason why you should follow those instructions (which will not save you from a trip) may be simple really--they work. I myself have tried other ways that, in theory, should work, but in the end they didn't and I had to do some travelling.

We had all the necessary legal documents (apostille issued by UK Foreign Office) translated into Russian at an office in St Petersburg for a fraction of the price it would have cost in England. There were a number of street offices offering this translation service.
