Hey, could anyone tell me a place in St Petersburg where could I get an HIV test? (such as would be accepted at consulates for a business visa)
Thanks a lot! |

| If you are staying more than 3 months you need to get a test prior to being issued a visa. That would normally be done in another country. |

Hi - I recently got an HIV test certificate in SPB. I cant remember the exact address, sorry, but let me explain where it is. Its in a courtyard off Ulitsa Komsomola. That is the road that runs across the front of Finlandski Station.
Coming out of the station, turn left along Komsomola. At the corner of Ploshad Lenina you cross Komsomola (ie further away from the station) and start walking along it, along the side with the (decreasing) even numbers. I THINK (but cant remember) the HIV place is at about number 14. Anyways, it is for sure in about the first courtyard you come to on the right, walking from Ploshad Lenina. As you walk into the courtyard entrance, the courtyard opens up to your right but the entrance to the clinic is immediately on the left, along a sort of covered path. If you are walking around the main body of the courtyard looking for it, you've gone too far, its just at the end of the passageway entrance to the courtyard.
Inside its a little gloomy place, go up to the desk facing you and they will tell you which consulting room to go into - often there is someone else in there, which is a bit disconcerting, but no-one seems to mind, it costs a few hundred rubles, and takes 3 or 4 days I think. To collect the result you bascially just barge back in to the consulting room (really weird arrangement) and they give it to you - I got mine like this, there was someone else in there having the test when i collected mine. Made me wonder what happens if you get a positive result - not exactly very confidential! Still, I guess that would be the least of your worries,,,,,,! |

| Ummm... I think that's AIDS. Anyway it's a HIV test that's required. |

I had a test in 2001 for a multi-entry, business visa.....it was not translated....I sent it along with my application to the travel agency that invited me. |

| In SF the consulate never answers thier phone. It is AIDS and HIV TEST is for AIDS. HIV is the same thing-just in the earlier stages. I tend to classify them as the same thing. This is the last item I need to get before sending in my application. Just found out I may be doing the trans siberia/mongolia next summer also. So I'm stoked on the possibilitiy of this. Especially if the right guide comes along. |

Just as an aside, I never had a test before my visa was issued, and I was never asked to get a test by any faculty members or officials the entire time I was in Moscow (10 months). I had a student visa, which may have been a factor, but I was ready and willing to get a test, but was never required to.
Just a different perspective. |

| I finally spoke with the consulate in San Francisco and they were very friendly and helpful. The HIV certificate does not have to be translated but is required for any visa over 3 months. |
