Has anyone in Moscow seen Borat yet? Funny but with all the hype and anti Borat press in Russia, this movie has more true satire about the U.S. than Kazakhstan..., just food for a thought... |

I heard Borat was banned in Russia. Anyway they will get their hands on the movie, thanks to pirate DVDs.

Haha, banned in Russia. I heard the character was not appreciated much in Kazachstan, but this is new to me too |

| Does animosity really exist between Kazaks and Uzbeks to the extent Borat displays in the movie? |

| I haven't seen the movie yet but I have been told from my friends who have (here in the USA) that it's not that great. And really we don't even hear much about it now. All a bunch of hype. But the new Bond movie is supposed to be really good. |

I think the Borat movie is all about media hype since an obnoxious reporter is the star! I bet after watching the Borat movie a number of Kazakh reporter-wannabes have been pulling stunts on unsuspecting victims and recording the incidents.
RE: Bond. My personal favourite is Pierce Brosnan but the only movie that did him justice was Goldeneye. But actually there can only one real Bond--Sean Connery! As for the rest--bah!
***I think Mr. Bond deserves a thread of his own, seperate from Mr. Borat...

| Everyone I know says that is hilarious - they're going to see it for a second or even third time. Considering the fact that it's currently #3 at the box office, I would hesitate to say it was "all media hype"! |

| I've not seen the film yet, but, the TV series was very funny. It's also a rare thing, comedy with a message. That is, it shows how people so easily accept outrageous racism, one of the clips shows some arrogant upper class idiot from here (England) agreeing that Gypsies should be banned from his sports club. Another I remember in America (somewhere in the south) where Borat started singing "throw a Jew down the well" and everyone joining in and clapping. I do think the Kazakhstan thing is badly thought out, but I guess he had to to have his character come from somewhere. |

| I thought the TV series was great, and actually my good friend whom I would always watch Ali G show with says Borat is a riot so I will take his word and go and see it. |

| I saw Borat with my husband yesterday and we both thought it was kind-of mind-numbing. It was a little different from what I expected, and I didn't think it was as funny as Da Ali G show. There were a few funny parts, but like a previous poster stated, this film's primary aim was to highlight the ignorance and shortcomings of Americans, rather than poke fun of Kazakstan. There were times when I was skirming in my seat at some of the people's responses to his questions; they were really shocking! And just a warning in advance, there is an absolutely grotesque nude scene (almost completely nude). *shudder* |

| Yes we have some Americans who do have a lot of shortcomings....however it's because in the US we have so much security here with our lives that we can be this way. So many people here do not need to concern themselves with what goes on in the rest of the world because they have it all right here. Personally I like the rest of the world so I take an avid interest. I have been to Khazakstan and have seen what it is like. I think Borat would have been more appropriately from say Uzebekistan, or Tajikistan, or Azerbaijan...Too much oil money in Khazakstan...and Almaty definitelywouldn't be home to someone like Borat. Borat girlfrien or wife in real life is the red head from Wedding Crashers...what's she thinking? |

I don't know about racism being accepted. You could ask Micheal Richards, and he may have a different response. |
