| True his character does have to be from somewhere. The Ali G show though is so funny and really don't we all need to laugh at ourselves some times. Actually I found so many Russians have a hard time laughing at themselves and really there is so much to laugh about. I was constantly told that I wasn't serious enough by my ex gf and really it's true I am not. But life is too short to wear black, smoke like a chimney, and never smile as so many people/men in those eastern countries do. So then I hope that Borat will at the very least spread some laughter and if it makes fun of us Americans...oh well. When it comes down to it-our country is the greatest nation History has ever seen as are our people. Who by the way are representative of all the people in this world and we are a testament to the good that can occur when we all come together. |

IMHO the Borat is an original joke about american cultural system and pseudo-values. But it's so pitty that Kazakhstan republic was illustrated as a backward tribal country. Sure that this country came in sight to the most low educated people in that wrong way.
Have been visited this country 8 years ago. This fine country is rather civilized and cultural high developed in common and mostly this country belongs to russian.
Typical picture of the kazakh villiage and people in the movie is out of all proportion to real view. It seems to me - that Borat's villiage was a romanian or albanian one 
Yes there are some local unofficial race problems with Uzbekistan but only in Southern Kazakhstan. But not in Northern part of it.
In common Borat is a rather funny box-office hit, valid for one show only. |

| I believe the scenes of Borat's village were filmed in Romania. I think I read somewhere that a lawsuit against Sacha Baron Cohen (the guy who plays Borat) was made on behalf of the Romanian village. Did anyone else hear something similar to this? |

| Yes I didn't find Khazakstan to be not modern at all. We can visit the backwoods here in the U.S. and find the same thing as what Borat portrays. |

| I think this movie is being over-analyzed. It's just a funny spoof about America and Kazakhstan is chosen as a country to make fun of. Who cares what real Kazakhstan looks like. I think any reasonable person can undestand that this is a joke. I remember the other one "South Park - Bigger Better and Uncut" where Canada attacked America... |

| Just saw the new Mel Gibson Movie...wow! On my edge the whole time and it is very violent-not for small children. Brutal movie. |

It seems that all Mel Gibson's movies are excessively violent, doesn't it?
He seems to have a lot of pent up aggression. Even in real life. Very angry man. |

I think it's because he's Catholic  But it's the reality of how things were...life can be very violent! An animal attacking -is violent. Man attacking is violent. And when people conquer people-it's usually violent. Cool movie...good story...good history...very graphic! Human sacrifices...whoa! |

LOL I guess you are not Catholic aren't you ?
Russel Crowe is also quite violent in real life, I guess he should also be catholic ?
The truth is both of them are alcohol addicts. |

I saw Borat and I thought it was pretty funny. Although yes, the nude fighting scene was gross 
But it's meant to be a satire and you therefore don't want to take it too seriously. It probably depicts Kazakhstan about as accurately as Crocodile Dundee depicted Australia...
Haven't seen Apocalypto yet, but it looks terrific. I love 'historical epic' movies, like that and Braveheart. And I suppose Russell Crowe had one of those too with Gladiator. (Just one thing with these movies though: you don't want to go thinking that they're what really happened. Some people sometimes forget that...)
And I'm not Catholic... |
