Russian Visa Extension 1 day?

Hello, I want to know what happens when my flight out of St. Petersburg is one day after the expiration of my visa. Do I pay the 50 eur to change the ticket by one day or can I pay the penalty for staying beyond my visa? Any advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated. USA Passport flying St. Petersburg to Riga to London on AirBaltic. Hadjh Ahrns

If you violate your legal status (e.g. stay beyond visa expiration 1 day), you'll risk being denied entry into russia for next few years. It is not worth it. I had emergency surgery and had my visa stamped at the local office in Irkutsk (Siberia) and a letter from the hospital explaining I had surgery, spent five in hospital and advised me not to fly for another three days. I had no problem flying to Moscow but when I tried to leave for London I was refused. I managed to contact a local official and payed $250 to have my visa stamped. I have returned to the country more than once since.
