I think someone should filter what he's posting here...
his new topic about his generousity is trash
he's making a garbage dump from a useful forum. |

I agree with Pavol and Randy (who basically said the same thing). If you don't like what someone writes, you have the option of ignoring it and not reading from that author again.
I think the main problem lies with the moderator who has to deal with off-topic posts or continuous posts by a problematic author. However, I do believe that most of the time, an author who is ignored and doesn't obtain the desired attention will become more moderate or will give up. Censorship should be avoided. |

The people own this website and not is not public property. The owner have put this forum to either provide a service or make a profit. (if you look around, you will see sponsor who pay for the operation of this sight. If no money comes in, no website period. You can argue want you and how unfair that it is and so forth. Thus the moderator must insure that this website will drive away customers for its sponsors, and thus the sponsors will pull its support and no more website.
Allow we can choose to ignore Winston and his comments, but new people on this website could be insulted and offend by his descriptions. Mogs, there is line that has to be drawn. I cannot sit here post graphic details of my bowl movement. Same as in restaurant, you can asked to leave if you offend the paying customers around. Winston offends people.
Your other comment that Winston would have left on his own. No he would not. His postings are just copy and paste of his journal. It was sort of written spam. A good writer would have accomodated his audience and I think if Winston edit his sexual stories (which others on his mailing list might enjoy) and made the journal more focused on his travels about Russia, it would be appreciated.
If you happen to know law, there is a fine line between censorship and slander and privacy. Winston in his email about was close to slandering his agency. Second, Winston posts personal emails on the web and his also posted names of people and their actions. He is also admits that some of these people have given him this in confidence and yet he posts them. |

That's why I like the internet. Because, for the most part, the government and law haven't destroyed it (yet). I see what you're saying, Atomcat. Yes, "Mr. Winston" should start his own web page and put his journals there.
That's exactly one of the points I was eluding to regarding the Moderator's problems - how visiting readers or new users to the forum interpret it based on the posts including this guy's. To that concern, I suggest that this is a forum and if you read all the posts, you will have to confess that it is not without insults or context that may be found to be offensive or alarming. Do you then suggest the moderator go over every post and start deleting these posts, too? What is offensive and how does one reach this conclusion? Do you see what I'm getting at?
The moderator could have a disclaimer and that could put sponsors and new users at ease. But, yes, it's up to the moderator(s) if they want to have an un-moderated or moderated forum. I don't like censorship but I agree, when a forum is un-moderated, there can be too much trash. Perhaps, certain posts can be moved to another thread? I don't know but I generally prefer un-moderated forums unless it's so bad that you can't even interact anymore.
I disagree with you that he wouldn't leave. I don't think ignoring him was even tried. In fact, I am sure of it. Some people love the attention. As for the slandering of the other agency, that isn't a reason to censor. That's his problem and if the agency wishes to pursue anything, that's their prerogative. However, I will agree that it is perfectly reasonable to want to remove that particular post. There's no need nor justification to post the history of their business relations. |
