We're arriving in Moscow from London/Cologne at the Bellorusky station (apologies for spelling) and leave for Beijing via Yaroslavsky station on the same day - can anyone tell me how to get between the two - we have all day to get there, we arrive in the morning and leave late at night.
Also, what can we do with 12+ hours in Moscow and is there anywhere at Yaroslavsky station where we can store our luggage safely and securely so we don't need to lug it all around Moscow?
Thanks

It's a straightforward journey. Go to metro Belorusskaya - it's right next to Belorussky train station. The only tricky part is that there are two stations there, both called Belorusskaya. You want the brown line (circle line), not the green line. Then it's three stops to metro Komsomolskaya. Get off there and follow the signs to Yaroslavsky Station. Yes, there are left luggage offices there. Shouldn't cost more than a few dollars for the day.
With 12 hours in Moscow I'd do this: head straight to Red Square. Then get back on the metro and go to Novedevichy Convent and Cemetery. Then back on the metro to Sparrow Hills to take in the best view of Moscow you can get. That will take up the best part of a day and all the metro stops are on the same line (all the way from Yaroslavsky train station).
Sculpture Park is another fun one that you wouldn't normally do on a one day tour. Otherwise you could do the standard one day things - the Kremlin, Arbat, etc. |

Just curious, when are you taking the Moscow/Beijing train? Is the the 004Z train? I'm doing the same trip on 9 January. Long shot, but drop a line if you're gonna be on the same train.
I'll echo Greg's comments above, Red Square is a great first stop - lots to see in that area - St Basils, the Kremlin, several museums, etc.
While there are plenty of Moscow Metro maps on the net, it's sometimes tough to find one with both Russian and English station names. I pulled this one off the net from somewhere (it started as a flash movie - I turned it into a PDF)... http://www.gsadv.com/images/MoscowMetro.pdf.
Enjoy!

| Thanks for your really helpful information. We're not going on the 9th I'm afraid, but on the 5th on the #20 via Harbin. As we're only in Russia for a day, is it worth changing money to Rubles? Can this be done in the UK? Or should we just use US Dollars? Is it best to have these in denominations of $1 bills? |

Yes, you'll need rubles on the train. You may wish to buy produce, baked goods, etc., from the locals at each stop.
Enjoy! |

If you go to Red Square the metro station is called Ploshchad' Revolutsi or you can go to Theatralnaya and have a walk through the tunnels to get there.
With only 12 hours it's well worth your while to study the metro so that you don't literally go round in circles. All you see then are metro staions!
As others have already said take roubles. Small notes are best for what you are doing. Lots of 10's and 50's. |
