Тема means " theme" He asked about post. But the words on this forum is "New Topic" anyway, so you would be more accurate in that way. Literal translation of post is "Пост"

The only other meaning of "пост" in Russian is “guard post”. If you use it in any different meaning/context, Embarassed people would say “Huh?”. Think In this context, Russian forums use "Тема" for a new post.

Yes, thats why I agreed with you about "Тема" for this situation.
Would guard post not be "Пост охраны"?.

I was responding to the “literal translation” part of your post. Wink
If you use “пост” in the right context, there’s usually no need to add “охраны”

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up. Those things ( contexts) are the difficult parts of the Russian language.

It is similar to this one in the English language:

Bud can be referring to Budweiser beer
But Bud also happens to be part of the nick of one wild Canadian
and can also mean a short name for "buddy"

Wow. You are so smart Spicey.
Bud is also the pre flower and pre branch part of a plant. There are many other meanings, but I won't bore you with them, Bud.

You mean the sheep dog and Wiley coyote? (I believe they use Sam, and Ralph in that analogy)
I don't really argue with Spicey. I am always right, and he just refuses to accept that fact. I know I shouldn't pick on the handicapped, but my Mom isn't here, so I can if I want. Besides, he's an easy target. Like shooting rats at the local dump. One day he'll wake up and smell the Folgers Smile
